The only thing keeps me back from buying this phone is the lack of Android Auto. I do use it a lot in my car. I have a X90Pro+ (and a Pixel 7 Pro for daily usage), and I do think that Vivo's current flagships (X90Pro+ and the Fold 2) are really good, nearly from all points of view.

On the X90Pro+ I was able to debloat everything, dont even using a vivo account only the Google one, but as the interface of the phone will never support AA, I should skip the Fold 2.

Sad that Vivo phones are selling only in China (although currently they are banned in Europe due to some tech/know-how stealing from Nokia).

"That is what their brand is defined by and consumers recognize them as such."

Well, I personally don't, and they are pushing their flagships and they do sell well, but mostly in asian markets.

I'd say you are correct if we only look at Europe and the US, but let's not ignore China and other huge markets where they do actually sell their flagship and are doing very well.

So well in fact, that Samsung isn't even in the top 5, when it comes to sales in China, and they haven't been since at least Q4 2021. Not just that, between Q1 2022 and Q3 2022, Honor, vivo and Oppo were doing better than even Apple.

This one for some reason doesn't have Huawei in it. The other 2 below however ranks Huawei as number 1 still.

Going by the traditional meaning of premium, you are 100% correct, but mobile manufacturers don't fit into that traditional definition. They all offer premium devices, but consumers still recognize a hierarchy amongst mobile brands which is reflected in their sales.

Companies like Vivo and Oppo built their brand off entry level mobiles. That is what their brand is defined by and consumers recognize them as such. That's why it is more of a challenge for them to sell $1,000+ foldables with "better" hardware. They're not even trying to push these devices because premium phones is not their bread and butter.

Unfortunately there's no global version of this phone so it's not optimised for Google apps. Oh well...
