The optics are still great to this day, not to mention its two telephoto modules and great ultrawide and macro shooting features. The charging speed is even better than some of today's flagships.

I'm astonished that you even tried. Splurging 1400 euros on a phone without knowing the implications is not a smart move.
As a Huawei user, I'm thinking about obtaining a P40 Pro+ or Mate 40 Pro+ in the future. I made sure to check by going cold turkey without Google for a week on my P30 Pro; I emerged a bit shaken by lack of some stuff, but it wasn't a total disaster for me.
I don't blame you for needing Google. But I do blame you for bashing Huawei due to your own Google dependency.

Why P40 Pro Plus is better than P50 Pro
I have used the Huawei P40 Pro Plus virtually since its launch. Very happy with it. The P50 Pro is ranked as the top mobile, so I ordered it and compared with the P40 Pro Plus. Big disappointment! Returned it, I'm keeping my P40 Pro Plus: The P40 Pro Plus can do Macro very well with the 3x zoom, not the P50. No HDR and no light painting on the P50. Colors have a yellowish/green cast on the P50 and maybe realistic but look dull and boring. Especially contrast is problematic: the processing is such that the dynamic range is great, but pictures have no punch...micro-contrast is heavily smoothed out.

P40 Pro Plus after 2 years
Already use the device since launch on 2020. Pros : Overall superb performance from Huawei, new updates from HMS shows very powerful performance. 100x camera zoom (very powerful, but overkill). Come with 512GB storage. No lag so far. Battery life no issue, fast charging. I'm not using screen protector or tempered glass, the screen very strong and durable. Cons : Sadly, no Google Play, slightly limit my daily with Disney+, Google Services, Google Drive and others. Huawei Apps Gallery cannot solve everything.

This is a full GMS phone, you can downgrade it perfectly to EMUI system below 10.1.0.150, and then install Google services easily
